Newton Solney's meeting
Newton Solney hosted our 2015 Autumn Group Meeting. The speaker was Rosemary Hughes who holds the Royal Warrant for creating Maundy Nosegays.Rosemary explained how she happened to be 'in the right place at the right time' - at a Group Meeting! So you never know where such things might lead....
Whilst creating a nosegay, Rosemary explained their history, the choice of flowers, the Maundy Money and her timetable for the day. She makes 8 adult and 4 children's nosegays every year and each doyley base is made of 15-20 doyleys which she glues painstakingly together!!
The competition for the evening was to create a pincushion. Each Institute entered one and all were expertly designed and made. Rosemary then judged the entries.....
... but there could only be one winner.... Willington member Shirley, had crafted an intricate and most beautiful pincushion in the form of a nosegay.
