Local Institutes are organised into Groups. Willington is part of the Mercia Group which includes Briz Valley, Bretby, Findern, Repton, Newton Solney and Milton. We have two main meetings per year which each Institute organises in turn. There are also business meetings, a carol service and outings.
Members from Mercia Group take part in the annual ACWW project- 'Walk the World'. It is an international event when women walk, wherever they are in the world, at 10.00. Hence for 24 hours, women are walking all round the world. In the past we've had a very wet walk in Calke Park, a pleasant stroll along the canal from Findern, explored Rosliston Forestry Centre where there were various interesting sculptures to view and paths to investigate. Last year we returned to the canal from Willington . Once again, we raised money for the current DFWI project.
Repton Church was the venue for the DFWI Carol Service in 2017.
Willington WI hosted a meeting when Jasvinder Sanghera, CBE, gave an inspirational talk about her charity- Karma Nirvana. Jasvinder campaigns tirelessly against honour based abuse and forced marriages. Our next meeting is on 20th March, hosted by Findern WI in their Village Village Hall. the speaker is Derek Walton, father of the Liverpool Sextuplets.
